Jack Astor's

Jack Astor's
Fairview Mall
Kitchener, Ontario

Choice of Sweet or Spicy Tofu, Shrimp or Chicken. I chose the Chicken. I was asked if I wanted soy and spicy chili sauce on the side. Presentation was very nice, the plate was placed deliberately on the table.  I liked how the food was placed on a green sheet bamboo or rice paper? I'm not sure, if you know please leave a comment! They got a mark for putting a lime wedge on the plate. The flavour was somewhat plain with a little sweet, sour and no spicy. I had to heap lots of chili sauce on to add some heat into the dish. They did top the dish with chopped peanuts but they weren't toasted. This dish had caramelized onions which I felt distracted from the typical Pad Thai flavour. I paired this dish with a glass of Rolling Rock Ale as the choice of beers was limited to mainstream brewers. I would eat this again.

I'd rate it 3.5 out of 5.

Cheers,

Choice of Seafood, Chicken or Beef. I chose the Chicken. I was not asked if I wanted it spicy. The menu showed a little red chilly to indicate it being a spicy dish. The dish came to the table quickly which was nice as I was hungry for my lunch. Presentation was mediocre as the plate had a chipped corner.  However they got a mark for putting a lime wedge on the plate. The flavour was somewhat bland with a little sweet, sour and hardly any spicy. They did top the dish with chopped peanuts but they weren't toasted. I was not in the mood for a beer and only had a glass of water.  I would eat this again.

I'd rate it 2.5 out of 5.

Cheers,

Beertown Public House

Beertown Public House

Choice of vegetarian, chicken or shrimp, I chose the chicken. I was not asked how spicy I wanted it. Presentation was good, came with slice of lime. The dish had full flavor range of sweet, sour and spicy. My face was slightly warm after eating. The red pepper slices made for a nice unique taste. The shredded carrot was too long and made it difficult at times to get a portion. I paired it with English Bay Pale Ale a Canadian craft beer. I would eat this dish again.

I'd rate it 3.5 out of 5.

Cheers,
Richard J. Colebeck.

Welcome to Pad Thai Reviews By Richard J. Colebeck!

I like Pad Thai.  It is one of my favorite dishes.  The depth of flavors, the texture, the ease of how to make it all make up for what I like about Pad Thai.

I decided to make up a blog about my Pad Thai experiences at restaurants.  I've thought about this for some time but not until some encouragement from my friend Warren Jones did I take the plunge to start writing a blog.  I hope you enjoy my reviews!

Cheers,
Richard J. Colebeck
